what is all about critical thinking?

Do you know about critical literacy? and how about reasoning skills.Do you know the purpose of critical thinking ?since i need to complete my chapter on this two thing i would like to share with you about my understanding regarding this subjects. 
According to www.wikipedia.org.com,critical thinking actually about  the process of thinking that questions any assumptions. It is a way of deciding whether a claim is true, false, sometimes true, or partly true. Another definitions about critical thinking is a synergistic thought process that provides justification when reassessing one's reality by weighing and considering personal observation against contradicting opinion.  It is also about a thought process that considers both sides of equation before concluding something to be true. Actually there are many definitions that can be classified to critical thinking, but for me critical thinking is an active process which is people need to think about anything in serious and  deeply with full of consideration. Actually without we realizes, we are actually usually use critical thinking in our daily life. For example, the students always to thinking about the fashion that they must to wear for the next day with consider the schedule and the activities that planned for that day. According to cf. Norris and Ennis, 1989 " critical thinking is reasonable and reflective thinking that is focused on deciding what to believe or do. 


The purpose of critical thinking is people to achieve understanding, evaluate view points, and solve problems in daily life. Since all three areas involve the asking of questions, we can say that critical thinking is the questioning or inquiry we engage in when we seek to understand, evaluate, or resolve."

So, in order to make any decisions or especially very important decision, people need to use their critical thinking skills wisely. ok,how about your opinion about critical thinking?what is the ever most critical times that you ever had in your life?let share something with me=) we will talk about reasoning skills in my future post..

EUPHEMISTIC or DYSPHEMISTIC

Today, i have learned one interesting topic which is about euphemistic language. Do you know what is the euphemistic language?
 Euphemistic language is a milder or more positive expression used to replace a negative or unpleasant one. 
According to www.wikipedia.org, euphemism means the substitution of a mild, inoffensive, relatively uncontroversial phrase, for a frank expression that might offend or otherwise suggest something unpleasant to the audience. 
From what i have learned in my class today, euphemistic language is arise by Noam Chomsky and he stand up with his point that " Word have positive and negative connotation". 
Then, the thing that oppose euphemism way is dysphemism language which is a direct language and honest from the speaker in order to deliver their messages. Dysphemism means replacing a neutral or positive expression with a negative or unpleasant one.  
 As we know, words are powerful agents to built interaction in communication and with words it can influence others people without realizing it. It is because as stated in Critical Literary Reading book the words that have been used are carry at least two layers of meaning which is denotation and connotation. 
As to make you more understands, denotations is a word's exact or dictionary meningor as my lecturer said it is more towards literate meaning. Meanwhile connotation means the implied or suggested meaning and the emotional impact that the words carries.

Based on the differences that shows in  the table above, which one is better for people  use in express their way in communication and interact with people?


If people ask me which one is my choice, i would prefer to choose dysphemism language. This is because i think use something that more on towards not in hidden meaning. Another reasons that make me choose to use that particular language is juts because it do not make any confusion in order to deliver a messages to someone and it cannot be misinterpreted by others people even though the actual intention or meaning is difference from what are the others claimed. 
One of my strong reasons to refute the euphemistic language is it cannot be accepted by all cultures. For example, in United Kingdom (UK) cultures, "pussy" means sweet but in United State (US) means coward. Another example is "fag" which is mean homosexual in (US) but it become a cigarettes in (UK) culture. 


From the situations,it can make me stand on my point to choose dysphemistic language rather than euphemistic language. How about you?

The valuation about the cool kids that are quitting facebook

Do you agree that people who are join Facebook is not a cool? What are the thing that can make you refute the statement..?
According by Jenna Wortham, all the cool kids are quitting Facebook. It is means that when you joining Facebook you are not that cool person. Facebook is the most popular social networking in this time being. The popularity of Facebook is increasing so much that soon it will reach 1 billion members. Many people out there who passes most of their time on Facebook.
Jenna Wortham is a technology reporter from New York Times. 


She is the one person that come up with the statement about the kids and Facebook. But, is it really true about what the statement? Maybe Jenna has been pointing out her thought when she said one of Facebook's main selling points is that it builds closer ties among friends . But some who steer clear of the side say it can have the opposite effect of making them feel more, not less, alienated. 
In my own perception, Facebook is one of the social network that is can make people exit from their lonely and bored in their daily life. This is because, Facebook is offers Facebook chat box  that can make people communicate as a non-verbally as anytime that they want. Apart from that, Facebook also one of free tools medium to communicate all over the world. 
Furthermore, Facebook also give a some benefits towards students such as they can create up a group only for studying. From that, they can share any information about the projects, home work, assignment, exam, due date and many more etc.


On contrary, Facebook can also bring the drawback such as addicted to Facebook. Kids make Facebook as a one of the routine in life. When people become addicted to Facebook, they are actually not appreciates their valuable time that can make them better in life rather than just sitting in front the screen monitor without doing any physical activity. It is actually can lead to health problems. 
Then, there are plenty of groups and Fan pages out there which is being created to abuse or violate other religion , personalities , nation etc. So, it actually can distinguish racist activity and it decreasing popularity. 


but,according to excerpt that  have been stated by Jenna Wortham about all the kids are quitting Facebook.The thing that can be assumes here is, she is one of reporter that have been facing work with many fields of work such as staff reporter, culture reporter, freelance writer, and freelance research and writer. Based on that, Jenna actually come out with the quotations just because she know how people or kids that have Facebook account really act base on her observation. 
The valuation about hows cool the kids that join and quitting Facebook or the advantages and disadvantages of Facebook towards kids is actually depends on the the person itself whether to use it in a right way or not. If the kids use a Facebook in a right way, they are cool kids and vice verse. 

The degree of Happiness

The excerpt from Betrand Russell book, which is the conquest of happiness. It is stated that, there are have two sort of happiness, which is as a plain and fancy, or animal and spiritual that is open to any human being and the other sort of happiness which is refer to people those who can read or write. 

Betrand russel was a British philosopher,logician, mathematician, historian, and social critic. According www.wikipedia.com, Russell had two siblings which is Frank  (nearly seven years older than Bertrand), and Rachel (four years older). Based on his background life, Betrand's mother was died of diphtheria, followed shortly by Rachel's death. After that, the sad memory still come to him when his fther also died of bronchitis. Then Betrand live with his grandfather who had been a Prime Minister and also died in year 1878. The adolences stge of Betrand was very lonely  he often contemplated suicide. His life change after his brother Frank introduced him to the work of Euclid, which transformed Russell's life. 

More about him, Betrand still cannot feel the truth of happiness eventhough his marriage was falling apart  in 1901.  It was to be a hollow shell of a marriage and they finally divorced in 1921. Letr on Betrand had passionate affairs with a number of women including Lady Ottoline Morrell and the actress Lady Constance Malleson. Russell began his published work in 1896 with German Social Democracy, a study in politics that was an early indication of a lifelong interest in political and social theory.

  
According to the experienced of life that Betrand have gone through, i think Betrand made a quotations about the degree of the happiness is just because he never feel very happy during his past life. By the time he want to start a new happy life with his marriage, it it just falling down and maybe at that time he felt very frustrated. Betrand facing a dark part of his life one after one. For exampe, after her mother died, his father and brother turns. After think more deeply, he can felt the happiness of life when he turn into political fields and he can used his ability to write and read.
So, i really agree about the degree of happiness that stated by Betrand Russell. we still can feel the happiness in this life but it might be only a pieces of happiness that we can taste it. If people want to feel more happiness in his /her life, the knowledge is one of the important thing that can prove up our prestige of happiness in this life..

IS IT TRUE THAT MEN AND WOMAN ARE MERELY PLAYERS?

maybe not all people will knock their head and agree with the statement that men and women are merely player. Maybe for the men they will said it is only a judgement that will not affect them. but how with the statement and article that wrote by Robert Greene that clearly stated men and women are merely player. 

Lets we look at the one of famous quotation by William Shakespeare 

All the world's a stage,

And all the men and women merely players; 

They have their exits and their entrances,

And one man in his time plays many parts 

What is does it mean..?

This is one of Machiavelli wrote " Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good"

As stated in excerpt from the book,"The 48 Laws of Power" our world today similarly imagined itself the pinnacle of fairness, yet the same ugly emotions still stir within us, as they have forever.  
From the excerpt, it can make me agree with the judgement. This is because lot of the things that happened in this world shows that there is no one can be a perfect. apart from that, everyone in this world are usually keep to become pretending person. For example, when he/she actually in a angry mood, they still can express the happy face and act like usual without express the anger. why?


maybe he/she want to take care of other feeling and maybe he/she exactly love to pretend. 


According to what has been claimed by Robert Greene about men and women as merely players maybe he was ever face and go through with a kind of situation. 


men and women are merely players also can be prove when a person looks like innocent at all the time actually have a bad attitude. It same goes with a men or boys that love to being a good person in front his parents and girlfriends, instead at the back he actually do something that is unpredictable. 
According to the excerpt from the book "The 48 Laws of Power" Robert Greene stated his opinion about the men and women as a merely players is to show the reader how people actually can gain the power by becoming as a players in this world. As like the world is two faces entity. In other meaning people can use the many optional ways to gain a power and successness. It is depend on the person to choose a right way or wrong to gain a power. If the person choose to keep become pretending person,it is your own choices. 


For me, it is same meaning and have a connection  like the other one of 48 laws that written by Rober Greene, that is," Win through your Actions, Never through Argument"
It is bring the meaning that it is much more powerful to get others to agree with you through your actions, without saying a word. Demonstrate, do not explicate. So, demonstrate your good intention to your aim and sacrifice your exist  feeling to get the satisfaction in future.

The 100 years of the twentieth century will be remembered for the worst of humanity act, that is World War 2. According the WWW. Wikipedia.org.com, World War II, or the Second World War (often abbreviated as WWII or WW2), was a global conflict that was underway by 1939 and ended in 1945.  It will be remembered for the death and destruction on a large scale that is never seen before in human history. This is because more that millions people died at the hands of cruel leader or head of government that act as brutal and cruel totalitarian regimes towards people. As stated in a book of Critical Perspective On World War 2 by James W.Fiscus, there is about 50 millions people died as a direct result of the war. For example, there is some states that everyone was died such as in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Arizona and .etc. This is because the irresponsible  character that have by the leader, that is by Adolf Hitler. He is known as a people who are responsible for starting World War . Hitler comes to power in Germany by January 30,1933. He was appointed by Hindenburg as a chancellor of Germany.Within a year later, Hitler was able to take over both position of president when Hindenburg died and become as a chancellor and combine them into one position of supreme leader. He started World War 2 when he had his Nazi force enter to  Poland in August 1939. According  by Jennifer Rosenberg, from 1935-1938 Hitler slowly removed Jews from German society. However, the cover of World War War 2 the Nazis force created an elaborate and intensive system to work on Jews as a slaves and kill them and become worst. The thing that i would like to share here is about the movie that i have done watching it. That is "The Pianist". The movie is really relates my feeling with the tragedy of world War 2. The movie that  entitled as "the pianist" is a one of  sad story that i ever watch than Titanic film. It is because  the story shows how a war could destroy the harmony of human life that turns to disaster . The story is about one life of a pianist man who deliberately separated by the Nazi only because of hatred against Jews at that time during world war 2.

if given the opportunity to speak out, I would still object to the cruel acts committed by Nazi forces on Jews at the time. This is because every man has their own rights in their life and not simply be treated cruelly. Based on the cruel

act that have done by Nazi force towards Jews, i know that they still can not erase the black memory from their memory for all their life. For me, the dictation of Nazi is really cannot be accepted. For example there is shows in the movie, the death body is being burnt by Nazi force at the side of the road without any sympathy. The story also shows how Nazi force act towards woman. At that time, there is nothing chance to speak or give any opinion or judgement. The pianist movie actually biographical war  film in 2002. It is directed by Roman Polanski. The movie is adaptation of the autobiography of the same name by Jewish-polish musician ,Wladyslaw Szpilman. The film is directed by Roman Polnski taht is born on 18 August 1933. From what i have reserch about him as stated in wikipedia, he is a French polish film director, producer, writer and also as a actor. The film was won Oscars for Best Director ( Roman Polanski), Best Adapted Screenplay. This is because i think the factor of  the success i because he has gone through the actual experience during World War 2. He escaped from the Krakow Ghetto as a child after his mother die. He ended up living in a polish farmer's barn until the war end.  The thing that i found from the movie is there is better to become more sympathetic person. This is because by having  a good attitude and follow the noble norms, we can be more appreciated and get well respected by others. Become a person whose have a lot of love can make this world become even more happy and cheerful. As stated by George Sand, There is only one happiness in life - to love and to be loved. =)
